Google Helpouts! Doesn’t ring a bell, does it? Well that is the problem exactly. Citing slow growth as a major factor , Google announced its decision to shut down the ‘Helpouts’ support community on 2oth April,2015.
Google Helpouts which went live on November 5,2013 was a way for users to get expert advice and solutions for a variety of problems using live feeds. It utilized the Hangouts video chat service to connect users one-on-one with experts in a variety of areas such as arts & fashion, to health care, to computers and electronics.
Users would be charged for this one-on-one video advice from a Google selected expert, though some advice was dispensed via Helpouts for free. Experts could even set their own price and were paid through Google Wallet.
A couple of months, ago Google even had to shut down its paid service in the European Union thanks to changing tax laws. Consequently, Google has even removed the mobile application for Google Helpouts from both Google Play and Itunes.
Users shall be able to download existing data of Google Helpouts until November 1st through Google Takeout, but after that date all data will be deleted.
Here’s Google statement regarding the matter, posted on the Google Helpouts website:
“Saying ‘ so long’ to our Helpouts community.
We have some sad news to share: Helpouts will be shutting down on April 20,2015
Since launching in 2013, Helpouts has been a home for people to connect with experts on topics they and to learn about or seek advice and solutions to everyday challenges. The Helpouts community includes some engaged and loyal contributors , but unfortunately, it hasn’t grown at the pace we had expected. Sadly, we’ve made the tough decision to shut down the product.
Starting April 20, you’ll be able to download your Google Helpouts history using Google Takeout( available until November 1,2015)
We want to thank our community for all their support-both the providers who shared their expertise with the world, and the people who needed some extra help or advice along the way. You’ve had a lot to contribute- and we’ve loved learning alongside you.”
